Explore The Kimberleys
The Kimberley is Australia's last great frontier. Located in the northwestern part of Australia and wedged in between the Indian Ocean and the Great Sandy Desert, this great outback region boasts spectacular landscape and breathtaking natural wonders.
Up until recently, the Kimberley was relatively unknown to mainstream travellers mainly due to difficulty in accessing the region.
Today, with the help of the National Highway and the emergence of tourism-centred businesses, the Kimberley attracts adventure seeking travellers from across the world.
The 300,000 square kilometre area offers plenty to do.
The Gibb River Road is a 660 kilometre dirt track running right through the centre of the Kimberley. Sights and scenery you'll find on the drive include magnificent gorges, clear rock pools and serene waterfalls. Depending on the visitor, the trip can be an adventurous ride or a relaxing scenic drive.
Broome, the popular holiday destination by the Indian Ocean is the perfect place to watch the sunset and the moonrise. The Staircase to the Moon, only seen three nights in any one month, is a fascinating silvery illusion created when the full moon reflects off the tidal flats of Roebuck Bay. Other attractions include a camel ride along the beach, dinosaur footprints and visiting the many pearl attractions of this previous pearling town.
One key attraction of the Kimberley is Purnululu National Park. Discovered in 1983 and established in 1987, the park and the Bungle Bungle Range with its orange black striped rocks is now a World Heritage site. A night in the Bungles is definitely a must do when visiting the Kimberley. After a visit to the rocks, you can cruise down Lake Argyle where you'll find freshwater crocodiles and wallabies. The nearby diamond mine is the world's largest diamond producer and the only significant source of the precious pink diamonds.
The places and attractions described here are the just the tip of the iceberg. There is much to see and do in this remote part of Australia and what better way to do it than through a personalised charter service from 37 South.
