Pilotage Areas
Here is a brief summary and quick reference sheet of the New Zealand Coastal Pilotage Area Restrictions to assist you putting together your New Zealand itinerary.
Although the 500gt has been applied to most areas, some areas as recently as April 2011, there are still some snags to watch out for which may be useful to know about for those who intend to do any extensive coastal cruising of NZ. Also to watch out for is the 40m Loa rule which will affect vessels that are not 500gt.
Please contact Phil Tomlinson on philt@37south.co.nz if you wish to receive a scanned copy of Part 90 of the Maritime Rules for Pilotage put out by the Maritime Safety Authority of NZ which will give the area description details for each port.
