Sunshine, Scenery and a Fine Drop of Wine

At the top of New Zealand’s South Island, the Marlborough region offers a delightful mix of stunning scenery and outdoor activities with internationally acclaimed wine and gourmet cuisine. Everything you want for a wonderful get away.

Best known for awardwinning  Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough also has Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Gewurtztraminer of note and is New Zealand’s largest wine production region.

This is one of New Zealand’s sunniest and driest areas, with the east coast on one side and mountains to the west. Warm summer temperatures around 24 degrees Celsius and cool clear nights contribute to high acid and long slow ripening of grapes. The result is herbaceous, distinctive, zesty and pungent.  Having a glass while you’re here is a must, or perhaps taking a wine tour.

Marlborough teams its fine wine with excellent eating and you’ll find a number of gourmet restaurants. Perhaps some freshly steamed mussels to go with that Sauvignon Blanc? The annual wine festival is a great time to enjoy food and wine matches, tasting of all kinds, wine tutorials, fashion shows, competitions and entertainment.

The Marlborough Sounds is a network of sunken valleys with clear waterways flowing between steep hillsides covered with virgin native forest.  The meandering coastline has numerous hidden bays and quiet coves. Walking is a popular activity here, and the 71 kilometre Queen Charlotte Track is world renowned for its beautiful views along the coast, around inlets and along skyline ridges.  Other great ways to explore include kayaking, mountain biking, and cruising by boat around the islands in the outer sounds. The area has over 50 nature reserves and is a haven for wildlife.

Many people from around New Zealand and around the world enjoy unwinding in Marlborough, yet the towns are still small and friendly, and the feeling of peace is substantial.

The 103 foot ketch Pacific Eagle is based in the Marlborough Sounds, offering luxury charters in this most beautiful destination.
